Zonta Club of Medford, MA USA

Our Goals

The goals of the Medford Zonta Club followed in line with Zonta International goals prescribed at the 2023-2024 Biennial Conference. Of priority was to focus on developing strategies to increase membership. Given our small number club of eight members, we had to be realistic about the limits of time and active participation we could expect for planning and executing events or fund-raising projects aimed at publicizing Zonta and recruiting members.

As we continue to reach out to attract more voices in our quest for gender equality, empowerment of women, access to all resources and a life free of violence, we are open and respectful for people of all backgrounds.

Service and Advocacy

We conduct presentations that inform on issues dominating the news and of concern and interest to women. The intent was to draw the attention of women in our communities to our meetings to hear and discuss more RE: these issues presented through Zonta’s lenses and in synch with Zonta’s biennial goals. Click on Events to see the quality presentations we have sponsored this year.

Scholarships

Zonta is dedicated to achieving gender equality in education and supports scholarships, fellowships and awards for women and girls pursuing education and careers in these traditionally male-dominated fields.

In 2023 the Medford club awarded $500 to a deserving high school student (Young Women in Public Affiairs). She was advanced to the District level in hopes of being awarded $5000 from Zonta International.

We also continued to support the Nursing Scholarships to Radiology students at Lawrence Memorial Hospital/Regis College Radiology Program. This spring we awarded two $500 scholarships to students identified as ones who would be assisted toward funding their program fees.

Community Donations

The Cambridge YWCA remained our primary donation recipient by means of the 50 holiday gift bags of personal care items packed and had delivered for women residents in their single occupancy residence. This is a practice we’ve continued for the past eight plus years and one the YWCA counts on as the source of that number of gifts for their residents.

We also continued our contribution of $300 to the West Medford Community Center Girls’ Basketball team for their tee shirts. This is a donation of about 6 years duration that has been of mutual benefit to both support of the girls’ team and advertising for our club. Some identification of Zonta is printed on the shirts each year.

As well, we again contributed a $50 ad donation for the Arlington MLK, Jr. Celebration, and will also continue our support to the Medford Joint Service Club Dinner with the submission of a $40 gift basket for the raffle. We are not the sponsoring organization this year, but representatives from our club will attend.

Our community, state, country, and world need us now more than ever. If you are interested in making a difference locally and globally, you’ve come to the right place.
